Why Audi doesn't charge small hatchbacks – there is an answer!
Audi Managing Director Julius Seebach said that the company has no plans for an RS version of the A1 subcompact hatchback. Interestingly, this is not only due to economic inexpediency
The top manager explained that such a decision is, of course, justified by the economic inexpediency of small “charged” cars. However, at the same time, there is a reluctance on the part of the Audi RS sports division to develop a four-cylinder engine while the lineup still has an inline five.
Seebach emphasized that the five-cylinder turbo engine that is installed on the RS3 will remain the base power unit for RS models, since the 2.5 inline five is a “sub-brand legacy.” For more compact models, the RS sports division would have to work with small-capacity engines, but boosting the fours is not part of the brand's plans.
