Audi has declassified an extreme modification of the rear-wheel drive R8 supercar, which will be released on the market under the designation R8 GT RWD. The circulation of this modification will be limited to 333 copies

In this case, the five-liter V10 engine was boosted to 625 horsepower. A 7-speed robotic gearbox is used here, with changed gear ratios and a new electronic control unit installed. As a result, the Audi R8 GT RWD will reach the first 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds – this is 0.4 seconds less than the performance of the basic rear-wheel drive version, but the all-wheel drive Audi R8 Quattro with the same 620-horsepower engine will do this in 3.1 seconds.

However, the main feature of this R8 is the Drift mode “Torque Rear Drive”. Electronics in this mode helps the driver move in a controlled skid by controlling the traction on the rear wheels.

Audi has published a teaser of the new version of the Audi R8 supercar. This modification will probably be the last one

The official presentation of the car will take place on September 12, but for now there are several images of the exterior hidden under camouflage. You can notice the F-shaped LED headlights, carbon fiber inserts on the body and a large spoiler. On the company's official social media pages, these images are accompanied by the hashtag #AudiR8LastLap, which can be translated as “The last run of the Audi R8”. Rumors about the end of production of the supercar have been going on since 2021. Many even assumed that the 2022 R8 GT RWD modification would be the last for the model ahead of the brand's complete electrification.

There is no information about changes in the power plant yet. It is known that the new modification will retain the traditional V10 FSI. In the R8 GT RWD version, the 10-cylinder 5.2-liter unit had a power of 620 hp and 565 Nm of torque. Acceleration to “hundreds” – 3.4 s. Maximum speed – 320 km/h. Transmission – 7-speed “robot” S tronic. Drive – rear or all-wheel drive.

However, their words influenced potential buyers, which created a sharp demand for the model in 2023 (1,591 units were sold).

Seebach emphasized that the five-cylinder turbo engine that is installed on the RS3 will remain the base power unit for RS models, since the 2.5 inline five is a “sub-brand legacy.” For more compact models, the RS sports division would have to work with small-capacity engines, but boosting the fours is not part of the brand's plans.
