The car was driven during the races by AMG development engineer Damian Schaffert. The manufacturer claims that a practically production car was involved in setting the record. The differences were the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires pre-installed on the coupe and the aerodynamic body kit. Curiously, the record was set using a new method, in which the track length was increased by 232 meters. Mercedes also measured the time according to the old count – 7 minutes and 23 seconds.

Meanwhile, the absolute track record still belongs to Porsche: the 919 Hybrid Evo prototype spent only 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds on a full lap.

Mercedes has presented the second generation of the AMG GT coupe. The car received all-wheel drive and a 4-seater interior layout

Let us recall that the first generation of the AMG GT debuted in 2014, and three years later it received a restyling. The next generation received a slightly modified design, but the main changes are concentrated inside. The multimedia system screen has become wider, the “dashboard” is now digital, and all the physical buttons on the central tunnel have disappeared. The developers abandoned the Transaxle scheme, which allowed the gearbox to be located closer to the rear axle. Now the layout is more traditional: the transmission is installed immediately behind the engine. This made room for a second row of seats, but this option is only available for an extra charge.

As before, the AMG GT is equipped with a 4.0-liter gasoline V8. The standard version of the AMG GT 55 develops 476 hp and 700 Nm, and the flagship version of the AMG GT 63 – 585 hp and 800 Nm. The engine works in tandem with a 10-speed automatic AMG Speedshift MCT 9G.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a new sports version of the AMG GT 63 coupe with the Pro 4Matic+ prefix. The car is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8, boosted to 612 hp.

The increase was 27 hp (up to 612 hp) and 50 Nm of torque (up to 850 Nm). As a result, the car is capable of reaching the first “hundred” in 3.2 seconds, and acceleration to 200 km/h will take 10.9 seconds. The “maximum” is limited to 317 km/h.

Externally, the AMG GT63 Pro 4Matic + can be distinguished by larger air intakes at the edges of the front bumper and a spoiler on the trunk lid. Inside, AMG Performance sports seats are installed. The trim is made of nappa leather and microfiber. The model is equipped with 21-inch forged wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, but optionally, at no extra charge, you can install Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires.
