They did almost the same thing with the car as with the Outlander. The new version has only two seats, the rest of the space is reserved for cargo. The floor in the rear of the cabin is absolutely flat, it is lined with a pile covering. The capacity of the cargo compartment is 1,488 liters. As for the load capacity, the car will carry about 600 kilograms of payload. By the way, it can tow trailers weighing up to three tons.

Unlike the Outlander, the Pajero Sport is not equipped with a net that separates the cargo and passenger compartments. The rear side windows are replaced with plugs that are painted black, which outwardly resembles strong tinting. The cargo Pajero Sport is almost indistinguishable from the standard version, especially considering that the technical part of both versions is completely identical – a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine with a capacity of 181 hp, which works in tandem with an 8-speed automatic.

On May 31, the first example of the updated Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2020 model year frame SUV rolled off the assembly line at the Kaluga PCMA Rus plant. Now it will be produced here simultaneously with the Mitsubishi Outlander crossover, as well as Peugeot, Citroen and Opel models, primarily commercial ones

Pajero Sport has been produced in Kaluga since 2013 (since 2017 – a restyled version). Last year, the SUV was released in quantities exceeding 2,100 units, a lot, but this is about seven times less than the popular Outlanders were produced. In just 8 years of operation, the Kaluga plant has produced almost 190,000 Mitsubishi cars. Japanese models are assembled on separate “threads” of the conveyor; they only have a shop for anti-corrosion treatment and painting in common with the “French”.

The SUV has been updated in the front end and lighting, with new headlights giving the car a more brutal look. The rear lights have changed, now their lower “tails”, which caused a lot of controversy, have become shorter. The interior now features a new, fully digital instrument panel with the ability to change screens. The multimedia system and climate control unit have been updated, and the seats have been changed. The trunk door has received an electric drive. The car's capabilities have been supplemented with adaptive cruise control and a blind spot monitoring system. Some functions, including opening the fifth door, can be “controlled” through a special application on the smartphone.

In terms of dimensions, the updated Pajero Sport has changed only in terms of length (+90 mm), ground clearance (+3 mm, now 218 mm) and fording depth (+10 mm, now 700 mm). All the main parameters have remained the same. The frame design and the famous Super Select 4WD II transmission have been preserved.

The new product has not yet arrived at dealers, but the prices are already known. The Invite and Intense trim levels (only with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 181 hp) are priced at 2,879,000 and 3,149,000 rubles. For the Instyle and Ultimate trim levels, along with the diesel, a three-liter gasoline engine in the V6 configuration is available, developing 209 hp. The cost of these versions is 3,469,000 and 3,769,000 rubles, and the price does not depend on the engine.

The popular Japanese crossover passed the national JNCAP crash tests with flying colors, earning five stars. Notably, the hybrid Outlander PHEV participated in the tests.

Japanese crash tests are considered to be among the most stringent in the world. Local experts are extremely picky about both the required number of airbags and the presence of auxiliary systems.  Conventionally speaking, a car will not be able to get the maximum five stars if, for example, it is not equipped with an emergency braking system with obstacle recognition.

However, as we have already mentioned, Mitsubishi was able to take the top lines of the rating. The set of active safety systems here was in full order – there is the already mentioned emergency braking system, and adaptive cruise control with lane control, and a blind spot monitoring system. In addition, the car is already equipped with seven airbags in the base – this also influenced the high assessment of the experts.

As for the crash test itself, JNCAP conducts two frontal impacts – at a speed of 64 km/h with a 40-percent deformable overlap, as well as at a speed of 55 km/h against a non-deformable barrier with 100-percent overlap. In addition, the protocol includes a side crash test. Outlander “crashed” worthy, among the important features the testers noted that the body cage received practically no damage.

Judging by the images, the interior trim will now include semi-aniline leather, and a multimedia system with a 12.3-inch screen will appear on the front panel. The crossover is also promised Yamaha audio speakers and new wheels with 20-inch diameter disks.

The power plant will remain the same. This is a 2.4-liter gasoline engine (133 hp), working in tandem with two electric motors (116 hp in front and 136 hp in the back). The main change will affect the battery, but the exact figures have not yet been reported. Let us remind you that the current Outlander can travel on electric traction for up to 85 km.

The Japanese brand Mitsubishi has presented an updated version of the Outlander crossover. So far, only the hybrid modification has been shown, which has received not only changes in design, but also in technology

The updated crossover received a more capacious battery of 22.7 kW * h. Its range on electric traction reaches 86 km. Recall that the previous 20-kilowatt battery provided 60 km of range in electric mode. In addition, the car's fuel tank capacity has been increased to 53 liters. In this regard, the maximum range in hybrid mode has grown to 844 km.

As before, under the hood is a 2.4-liter engine with a capacity of 134 hp and 203 Nm of torque. It works in tandem with two electric motors of 114 hp and 134 hp in the front and rear, respectively. The total power is 302 hp.

The main updates in appearance are concentrated in the front part. Here is a radiator grille with a different pattern and active flaps. The LED signature of the lights has also changed, and the 20-inch wheels have a new design. Inside, a larger 12.3-inch multimedia system screen is installed and a Yamaha audio system with 8 or 12 speakers, depending on the configuration, has appeared.
